In this Scene from Double Indemnity, Walter Neff, is talking about how he got involved in a murderous scheme while trying to sell an insurance policy to the house of Mr. Dietrichson. In the scene we go back in time, while still following the narration of Walter, we hear how he fell in love with the wife of Mr. Dietrichson. Throughout this scene we also see the story of the film play out. Live narration of thoughts Walter is having such as the pictures on the piano and the goldfish, as well as his thoughts of Phyllis as she is going down the stairs. This makes for a very interesting film look that we learned is quite common in dark Noir films. Narration of plot mixed with Story. We do see common noir elements such as a crooked protagonist, often looking for trouble, and a femme fatal image of the woman, phyllis. This scene really kickstarts the film, and begins the story, after hearing about the plot from Walter’s live call turning himself in.
