For my Project I would like to make something similar to a podcast and discuss character themes within noir films. Not necessarily the femme fatale, but the other characters such as the anti-hero protagonist, Detectives, Cops gangsters etc… and discuss how they really affect films and make the film “noir”. Specifically, I would like to look at how these and other typical characters displayed within film noir really drive the plot of a movie. The attire, and characteristics of these typical characters continue to be a factor in “noir” films today. I would like to look at their attributes and how they move the plot forward and create complexity as characters.
We’ve already watched quite a few noir films, so I will definitely need to reference those and some other newer noir films that I may watch to support my point about these prototypical noir characters. I’ll definitely also tap in to a lot of the readings that we’ve had, especially the ones about theme and characters. I’ll also be accessing the library database as well to grab more information about these important characters
This is a potentially engaging topic, but let me ask you a couple of follow-up questions:
– What do you mean specifically by “character themes within noir films”? When we talk about character, we’re discussing the ways individual roles tend to be shaped, the kinds of things those roles want/desire, how they go about achieveing them, as well as things like personality and individual style. When we talk about themes, we’re focused on ideas and concepts the film’s narrative (and characters, often) bring out through their form. So “character theme” is a bit more vague than it should be. A little further down there’s this: “how these…characters…drive the plot”, and that seems to be getting there, but would you say more about what you mean there?
– The paragraph on resources is pretty vague as well: “some other newer noir films” and “a lot of the readings” don’t give the reader much to go on in the way of specifics. Can you fill in any of those details right now?
