Dickos, Andrew. “Epilogue/.” Street with No Name A History of the Classic American Film Noir, University Press of Kentucky, Lexington, 2021.

In class reading from Dickos. Helps because it gave me some insights about how he thinks about noir and the evolution of on-screen violence over time. Why this big evolution has happened, and why it has happened to stick around still to this day.

Got a great quote from Angelica Jade Bastien here. This article gave a very insightful reason for neo noir violence and made me think and expand my thought process for why neo noirs have continued to evolve as a subgenre.

“Neo-Noir.” Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation, 10 Apr. 2023, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-noir.

Just used for the book definition of Neo noir as an intro for my video essay, didn’t want to pull too much information from wiki since it can be changed by anyone.

Silver, Alain, and James Ursini. “Some Visual Motifs of Noir.” Film Noir Reader, Limelight Editions, New York, 2005.

I didn’t include a direct quote from here, but I used this reading to get thinking about some of the visual motifs of older film noir as it compares to the neo noir. It does a good job talking in depth about different characteristics and what the imagery represents.

A solid start. (fyi, the Silver/Ursini reading listed is actually the same one we read in class: Place and Peterson are the authors; the other two are the editors of the book in which it appears. 🙂 ).
