Welcome to the course (2023)

This is the start of the 2023 instance of Darker Than Night: Film Noir and Genre, a 300 level course at Austin College in which we’ll explore the nature of film noir’s persistent power in American culture: its history, its aesthetic elements, and its volatile relationship to the concept of genre in film studies.

The dozen or so students in the course will be blogging throughout spring with scene analyses, video essay plans, and other materials meant to help you (and them) think through the nature of “film noir” in the 21st Century.
