The Film can be found attached above. The scene we are looking at starts at 7:30
The scene opens with our grizzled protagonist arriving at a large estate. The narration speaks of things in the past tense often with a pessimistic view and describes things as less than desirable. We also hear narration about the girl he interacted with calling her a “dane”. After a short interaction between the two, we have a vivid picture painted of our male protagonist. Occupying almost a moral grey area he dances around the insurance conversation making slight comments to our female character Mrs. Deckerson.
Overall our view of the main character is shaped as morally grey and ambiguous. He is presented as a smooth-talking man likable man with unsavory deeds in his past. Overall this is a common theme in noir films and is easily represented by the narration in this scene in Double Indemnity.
