For my final project, I would like to take a look at neo-noir and question why the genre has had a comeback (through one specific way– the superhero trope/genre), what elements of noir that it seems to lean on most heavily, as well as what elements it seems to disregard. For the purpose of this, I will primarily be taking a look at the batman movies due to their huge popularity, as well as some other superhero movies/television shows (Daredevil, Green Lantern) that take on a similar, distinct neo-noir feel to them.
I think that, due to anti-plagiarism software, it will be more conductive to do my project in the form of a podcast, or interactive tool of some sort. Although a video essay would be easier to explain with, I still haven’t found a way to get any sort of screenshots or video from Netflix especially. Committing myself to something with video portions could really hurt me later in the process if I’m unprepared, and so I’m leaning away from it.
The other difficulty I imagine seeing is definitely timing. There’s a lot to cover before the end of the year, and I’m imagining creating three or four ‘episodes’ of mini-podcast episodes if I go that route. I’d want to script and cover one every week and a half or so, to create three or four in the end. Keeping up with that will be one of the most difficult aspects of the process.
A solid topic. 🙂 I understand your concerns about getting hold of the videos, but we could definitely purchase DVD copies of at least some of the more important texts so you can rip them in Ida Green, so I encourage you to at least reconsider the format.
If you still come down on the podcast side, you’ll want to think about what images and clips you could highlight for your listeners so they could at least watch them on their own.
